Question 1:
Are you relatively happy with your relationships … friends, family, & loved ones? Your Answer: Relatively, yes. Although it is very helpful to have support from those around you, be aware that those who appear on the surface to support you most, may also be the ones who try (usually not consciously) to hold you back from becoming “the best” that you can be. It is important that you become experienced at sensing when someone else might be acting on their own competiveness with you or possibly even from a position of fear that they might lose you if you become, in their minds, “better” than they are.
Question 1:
Are you relatively happy with your relationships … friends, family, & loved ones? Your Answer: Relatively, no. Humans are very “connection” oriented, and you may have already noticed that food is often what we use for our connection events. Therefore, if you are alone more than you wish, you might find that there is a tendency to seek your nurturance from the food you eat … to “pamper” yourself in some way with a special treat. After all, this is our most original form of connection, closeness, and love that we experienced as children. So rather than ignore this impulse, it is important to understand it. And you can learn new tools to help you deal with feelings of loneliness that come and go in everyone’s lives.
Question 2:
Are you challenged by work that you love to do? Your Answer: OVERLY challenged. My work is very stressful! Your work is probably where you spend a big chunk of time in your life. And what you DO with that time is going to effect your ability to lose weight. Typically, a high stress job means that you might skip a good breakfast, drink stimulants like soda and coffee throughout your day, grab something quick for lunch (and possibly even skip THAT), have a sweet or salty snack for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up just to try to give yourself some energy, and then end your day with a big meal because you are ravenous! Does this sound at all familiar? Well this is the perfect plan for weight GAIN, but this pattern will never help you with weight LOSS. Even if you somehow manage to keep your daily calorie count down, you are telling your body to hold on to every calorie that it can, and store it, just because of all the stress that you are feeling. And since that kind of daily routine tells your body that nutrients are scarce, this too adds even more stress … so that … you guessed it … your body will store every crumb it can possibly get a hold of!
Question 2:
Are you challenged by work that you love to do? Your Answer: Yes, I enjoy my work, and it provides me with just enough challenge that I consider it stimulating. Yes, I enjoy my work, and it provides me with just enough challenge that I consider it stimulating. [The fact that you enjoy your work might turn out to be something you will consider as one of your greatest assets when you lose weight. SO much time (and emotion) is spent on the working part of the day, so you want to be able to enjoy that time. Therefore, the key for YOUR success in weight loss is going to be more about how much you are willing to learn about what your FOOD CHOICES are “saying” to your body: the selection of foods you eat as well as the timing of when you eat them is going to tell your body whether or not it is “safe” to let go of its extra weight. Abundant nutrients and frequent timing can be all that your body is waiting to hear from you in order to begin to let go of what it has been putting on your body in order to serve you in the way it thought best at the time.
Question 2:
Are you challenged by work that you love to do? Your Answer: I am mostly BORED by my work. Boredom is one of the most common reasons to eat more than we should. If you are bored at such a huge chunk of your day, you’re more likely to eat extra calories ANY time of day. Boredom becomes a habit as well as a lifestyle. Are you ready to look closer into determining why you think you only deserve a job that bores you?
Question 2:
Are you challenged by work that you love to do? Your Answer: I really HATE my job. When your emotions are strong, it is likely that you have “tolerated” a situation for way too long. When you have to tolerate something, then you have to “swallow” your emotions, and you might be including food when you do just that! Strong emotions mean a high stress response, so you are also likely wearing extra layers of fat on your body to “protect” yourself from some of this stress.
Question 3:
With whom do you eat your evening meal? Your Answer: With one or more individuals who are relatively slim and fit. You are LUCKY! You may feel discouraged at times that others around you are “slimmer” than you are, but I want you to know that statistically, the GREATEST determiner of a person’s weight seems to be associated with those with whom they spend time! Now, what I would want you to focus on next is to NOT be so hard on yourself, or to NOT try to be “perfect” at losing weight, because that need for perfection COULD be what is tripping you up! From now on, I want you to INTENTIONALLY treat yourself, but aim to do this only once per week. You want your treat to be a TREAT, and not a TREND!
Question 3:
With whom do you eat your evening meal? Your Answer: With one or more individuals who mostly need to diet too. Since the people we associate with tend to have a GREAT influence on us, you have a couple of choices:
What I mean by "be prepared" ... and in ALL choices above ... is to develop a skill that will help you to limit the influence others have on you. So my question to YOU now is: Are you ready and willing to learn this skill? Have you reached a point that it is important enough for you to do so?
Question 3:
With whom do you eat your evening meal? Your Answer: I quite often eat alone. You have a greater chance of losing weight when you eat alone as compared to eating with others who are overweight, but this comes with its own obstacles. You might be inclined to “substitute” the nurturance of being with others by using foods … especially processed carbohydrate foods … to make you feel “satisfied” and “loved.” So you will need to do things that will make it harder for you to do this, and the best solution I know is to throw away all those kinds of foods and surround yourself with ONLY whole, live foods (which are the only things that are really any good at satisfying your body with what it really needs anyway)! And then get out a journal to write about what you are feeling INSTEAD of “swallowing” those feelings with your foods. So my question to you is, are you ready and willing to learn this skill of looking deeper into what you are feeling at the moment BEFORE you eat? Have you reached a point that it is important enough for you to do so?
Question 3:
With whom do you eat your evening meal? Your Answer: I eat with different people most nights because my evening meal tends to be a social affair. It is quite common to socialize with our meals. And this is a wonderful thing! Yet before you know it, you have probably received a few “extra” calories in that restaurant-sized (huge) portions of processed foods that your body isn’t benefiting from, not to mention the additional calories found in the that “extra” glass of wine or beer. Still, you can learn to be alert to what is going on, which is actually an easy solution. Rather than be eating “mindlessly,” you can learn to be aware of every moment, and still be able to tune in completely to your own inner voice of your body, no matter WHAT is going on around you at the time. The question is, are you ready and willing to learn this skill? Have you reached a point that it is important enough for you to do so?
Question 4:
Are you happy with your physical surroundings … your house, your city/town, etc.? Your Answer: Relatively happy overall, yes. This is wonderful news. Your surroundings are SO important … and much more important than most people realize. If you CAN try to get outdoors more often, you should add that to your daily routine. Even if you don’t think of yourself as “outdoorsy,” you will benefit because of the fact that literally the vibrational frequency of the outdoors is more soothing than the higher vibrational frequency of all the electronics that surround you when you’re indoors. You may not even think you are “listening” to this vibrational frequency, but in fact, your BODY is very much tuned in to what is going on around you.
Question 4:
Are you happy with your physical surroundings … your house, your city/town, etc.? Your Answer: No, I would change lots of things if I could! Your surroundings are SO important … and much more important than you might realize. The fact that you DON’T like your surroundings, you should set out to change what you can immediately. Then for the rest, it will be important that you recognize all that you are going to choose to continue to “tolerate.” These things you tolerate will likely cause you to want to “swallow” your disappointment with the consumption of foods that are also not good for you unless you can stay aware and open to this. Try to get outdoors more often, and add this to your daily routine. Even if you don’t think of yourself as “outdoorsy,” you will benefit because of the fact that the vibrational frequency of the outdoors is literally more soothing than the higher vibrational frequency of all the electronics that surround you when you’re indoors. You may not even think you are “listening” to this vibrational frequency, but in fact, your BODY is very much tuned in to what is going on around you.
Question 4:
Are you happy with your physical surroundings … your house, your city/town, etc.? Your Answer: It depends on the day. My opinion on this changes a LOT! Your surroundings are SO important … and much more important than most people realize. Decide if there are things that you can change in your life so that you no longer have to “tolerate” it anymore. If nothing else, get outdoors more often. Add a simple walk to your daily routine.
Question 5:
Do you feel as if you eat less than others, yet they seem to gain no weight? Your Answer: Absolutely! Although many people may not understand this, I have found that it is OFTEN the case that people can “inherit” a body that has a strong desire to “hold on to” every additional calorie it can get its hands on! But you can RETRAIN your body too. It is constantly changing! You just need to do things to help your body learn that it no longer needs to believe in scarcity … that there is abundance in this world … so it can let go. By eating foods that are high in nutrients, your body will get this message loud and clear. But know that your thoughts will help your body to recognize this too, so begin now with the affirmation that you are surrounded by abundance! Do you believe this in your very core right now? Probably not. But eventually, a simple affirmation that rings true for you will help you to embrace it with all of your heart! Are you ready to do even this simple thing to make a huge difference in your life?
Question 5:
Do you feel as if you eat less than others, yet they seem to gain no weight? Your Answer: No, I know that I eat a lot! By eating a lot, you are not only storing a lot of excess calories in general. You are teaching your body that you are afraid that there is a famine up ahead of you, so let’s store up while we can! But you can RETRAIN your body. It is constantly changing! Just help your body learn that it no longer needs to believe in scarcity … that there is abundance in this world … so it can let go. By eating foods that are high in nutrients, your body will get this message loud and clear. It will even start to “tell YOU” that it is full! But eventually, a simple affirmation that rings true for you can help you to embrace a new belief with all of your heart! Are you ready to do even this simple thing to make a huge difference in your life?
